Ron Burges

Founder and Executive Chairman of BiP Solutions

Ron founded BiP Solutions in 1984 to publish the UK’s first directory of public sector contract opportunities, Contrax Weekly.

Prior to this he had a successful career in the motor and cleaning trades. He was CEO of the company from its creation, before becoming Executive Chairman during a business restructure in May 2012. Ron is also an accomplished writer on procurement issues and a speaker and presenter at conferences nationally and internationally. He now focuses on the strategic direction of the company and its expansion into new markets.

Simon Burges

Chief Executive Officer

Simon joined BiP in 1998 and has worked in a variety of roles with a particular focus on growing and developing BiP’s Events and Exhibitions portfolio. Following a period as Sales & Marketing Director, he moved into the role of Chief Operating Officer of the BI Division in May 2012 and was appointed CEO of the business in May 2016.

As CEO, Simon has overall responsibility for the strategic direction and operational success of the organisation, is a member of the Executive Board and chairs both the Operational and Steering Boards.

Grahame Steed

Grahame joined the business in 2003 as Production Director with responsibility for the multi-disciplined media and production department, including Content, Research and Distribution. Prior to that, he worked in various senior editorial and publishing roles for the media company EMAP plc.

Grahame was appointed Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the BI Division in May 2012 and became Sales & Marketing Director in May 2016 with overall responsibility for driving revenues through our private and public sector sales, marketing and events teams.

In January 2017, Grahame was appointed Managing Director of the Media and Marketing Solutions division of the BiP Group. In this role he assumed overall responsibility for two of BiP Group’s recent acquisitions – Pro Mark Media and Ingenium – as well as BiP Solutions’ events and training portfolio.

Following a restructure of BiP Group in April 2018, Grahame was appointed Sales and Marketing Director for the Business Intelligence and Public Sector business units.

David MacDonald

David joined BiP in 2009 as IT Director, having previously held the position of Development Director with SunGard. This role was expanded in May 2012, when he was appointed Chief Information Officer with responsibility for all IT and Operations.

In May 2016, David moved to the role of Operations and Efficiency Director where, in addition to IT and Operations, his remit now includes Research and Distribution, with a focus on driving operational efficiencies across the organisation.

Scott Smith

Scott joined BiP in 1999, working in a number of IT roles before being appointed IT Director. He moved to the role of Commercial Director in 2004 with responsibility for establishing and growing the international consultancy arm of the business. Since he took charge of the Commercial business unit, BiP has led a number of international projects including Kenya, Kosovo, Montenegro, UAE and more recently, Jamaica and the Bahamas.

Scott moved to the role of Chief Operating Officer of the Global Services Division in May 2012 before becoming Global Commercial Director in May 2016.

Linda Andrews

Linda joined the business in 2011 as Finance Director, bringing with her a proven track record of managing finance functions in the UK and overseas, including with NCR Corporation and the AIM -listed Maxima. She moved to the role of Chief Financial Officer in May 2012 and in May 2016 was appointed to the position of Group Finance Director, with responsibility for the Group Portfolio.

Linda’s remit includes developing strategies for future growth, including acquisitions.

The core purpose of BiP’s Senior Leadership Team is to deliver the overall business strategy, build strong teams and support staff and Directors to deliver results.

Jo McCallum

Prior to joining BiP, Jo McCallum developed her career within the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry, holding various roles within Digital Transformation & Commercial Marketing at Heineken International.

She joined BiP Solutions in 2018 as Head of Digital and Product Marketing to develop and execute the overall Product and Digital marketing strategy across our product portfolio.

Gus MacKenzie

Gus joined BiP in 2014 as Head of Media with a responsibility for growing exhibition and sponsorship revenues while developing a portfolio of  client-facing buyer/ supplier procurement events across the UK. Under his aegis, P4H (now the leading healthcare procurement event), P4H Scotland, Eunis 2015 Conference, UK Infrastructure Show, Procurex Ireland and GO Awards Ireland have all been successfully added to the BiP events portfolio, joining the regional Procurex events, the well-established DPRTE defence sector brand and the various national GO Awards.

Lindsay Templeman

Lindsay has worked in sales and marketing for over 20 years, predominantly in the publishing industry, gaining a wealth of experience in subscription marketing and technology. In 2013, Lindsay joined BiP Solutions as the Event Marketing Manager working closely with government bodies, industry associations and buying groups. In 2017 she was invited to join the Leadership Team as Head of Content and Creative Services, then in 2018 became Head of Marketing Services spearheading a key part of BiP’s shared services and managing the corporate content strategy.

Alan Mathie

Alan joined BiP in 2007. Coming from a recruitment background, Alan was responsible for implementing a direct approach to how we manage the recruitment of new talent into the business. From there, Alan’s role developed to incorporating Learning and Development before assuming overall responsibility for Human Resources in 2010. In his role as Head of Human Resources, Alan is responsible for reviewing, developing and managing our People Strategy. Supported by the team, the HR function is responsible for Recruitment; Learning & Development; Performance Management; and Employee Engagement. Alan is part of the Senior Management team and reports to the Board on the development of our People Strategy.

Mandy McLean

Mandy joined BiP’s accounting team in 1994 from Napier University. She began her career as a Credit Controller and progressed through the Institute of Credit Management and then on to Chartered Institute of Management Accountants qualifications as her career at BiP developed more towards accounting. Mandy took up her current role in the business in 2008. Heading up the Finance team, Mandy has responsibility for financial controls and reporting, payroll and the treasury functions of the group and is a member of the Operational Board.

Grant Smith

Grant joined BiP in 2000, working in a number of IT and project management roles before being appointed Head of IT in 2007. He is responsible for programme delivery of BiP’s software development projects and for the delivery and alignment of the IT Strategy. As one of BiP’s Lead Consultants, Grant has delivered and led various IT, Training and Procurement projects for clients across the UK, Europe, Middle East and Caribbean regions. Grant is an EU and IDB Key Expert in eProcurement and a Chartered IT Professional Member of the British Computer Society.

Sandra Peet

Following a degree in journalism and a short period working as a freelancer, Sandra embarked on a career working in a series of communication and PR-based roles across both the public and charity sectors. Sandra joined the Equal Opportunities Commission in 2006, and became part of the original Communications team for the newly formed Equality and Human Rights Commission twelve months later.

In 2012, Sandra moved to the private sector, taking on the role of Deputy Editor for iGov – an Ingenium brand – using her experience and knowledge of the public sector to support a range of organisations in engaging with this marketplace. She was swiftly promoted to Head of Service Delivery followed by a later promotion to Director of Client Services, where she led the content and production team with responsibility for delivery of all Ingenium’s marketing solutions.

Following the acquisition of Ingenium by BiP Solutions and the move to the new Media City office in 2017, Sandra’s remit expanded to cover both Defence Online and UK Construction Online. She has recently widened her remit further to head up content and client services for BiP with added responsibility for the Research division.

Sam Gilding

Sam’s early career involved managing a bar in Leeds, whilst simultaneously studying for his Architecture degree. After graduation he was recruited as a new business sales executive for public sector marketing specialists Ingenium. Sam developed quickly, posting record individual contributions in his first two years. He was swiftly promoted to lead the sales team, under the title of Director of Sales, where he delivered year-on-year double-digit growth over his three-year stint. Following the acquisition of Ingenium by BiP Solutions and the move to the new Media City offices, Sam continued his leadership of the sales function. He has recently widened his remit to head up the newly formed Media and Marketing Solutions business, a division that merges two previous acquisitions.

Jim McPhillimy

Chartered Mechanical Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Before taking retirement, Jim worked at SSE plc from 1995 until Dec 2016.

In total, Jim was on the Executive Committee at SSE for nearly 15 years. During his time at the organisation he worked in a variety of roles, including General Manager of the Metering Business, Group HR Director. In his last three years at the company he managed the Enterprise B2B division of SSE.

On top of this experience, Jim was on the Board of Scotia Gas Networks from its formation in 2005 until 2016.

Since December 2016 Jim has concentrated on selected non-executive director and advisory roles and selected consultancy assignments.

Alan Stewart

Alan is a Senior Executive at Cenkos Securities plc’s Scottish office. His areas of specialty include Energy and Technology and he is also a Non-Executive Director of Thistle Pub Co II plc and Thistle Pub Co III plc. He has advised many companies, from both the UK and abroad, on flotation and other aspects of the various UK stock markets. His particular focus at BiP Solutions is to help guide the company through the financial aspects of its continued development.

Professor Duncan Eaton

Duncan has over 40 years’ experience in public sector and civil service management and procurement, operating at chief executive level for 16 of those years. He established and was CEO of the NHS Purchasing and Supply Agency between 2000 and 2006. He is a past President of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) and the Health Care Supply Association and is a recipient of lifetime achievement awards from both Government Opportunities (GO) and the Health Care Supply Association. He also received the Swinbank Medal from CIPS.

Les Mosco

Les joined BiP Solutions’ Strategic Advisory Board in June 2015 following seven years as the most senior procurement professional in the Ministry of Defence. Les has 40 years’ experience in business. He rose to a senior position in British Coal’s supply department followed by senior acquisition and board positions in banking, oil & gas, rail, renewable power and central government. In 1995 he was elected the youngest ever President of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS).
